American Tournament – September

We host an American Tournament each month from May to September inclusive. Places are limited to 24 at each event. The event is open to members and any standard of adult player can participate with the focus being very much on having a fun time.

An American Tournament is a round-robin mixed doubles competition in which participants are initially paired at random. Timed rounds (usually 15-20 mins) are played on a rotational basis, swapping partners between rounds. Players play as many games as they can in the allotted time and the winner of the tournament is the player who has amassed most game wins in the event.

After the tournament is finished there is a social gathering with refreshments and of course the announcement of the winners who will receive a small prize.

The Rules

1. Each round is 15 or 20 minutes. Players play as many games as they can in the allotted time.
2. The winners will move clockwise onto the next court and one of the winners will swap with one of the losers to form a new doubles pairing.
3. There will usually be six rounds and each round you will be playing with a new partner.
4. No advantage scoring. If the score reaches deuce, it’s a sudden death point to win the game.
5. At the end of each round the organisers will record the score for each player.
6. The player who wins the most games at the end of the competition is the winner. There is a prize for the top ladies’ and men’s score.
